Graphite stinger rods
The stinger rods are used to open up tap holes in furnaces producing various metals. It is a small graphite electrode with high mechanical resistivity and high flexural resistivity. This process is mainly used in the production of metals such as silicon. To open a hole, the stinger rod is placed against the solid metal and heated until it melts. The molten metal then flows into the hole, creating a new opening. This method is quick and effective and does not require any specialized equipment. This action breaks the blockage and allows the liquid metal to cast into the ladle. The stinger rod is then removed, the tap hole is re-filled, and the process can be repeated until the graphite rod is used up/reduced in length and needs to be changed.
